(AMEX:  GRH)  announced that as of the close of the market on Friday, June 27th, it will be included in the broad-market Russell 3000 Index, comprised of 3000 of the largest and most liquid stocks based and traded in the United States.  Membership in the Russell 3000, which remains in place for a minimum of one year, means the common stock of GreenHunter Energy will also be automatically included in the small-cap Russell 2000 Index.

The Russell 3000 Index is widely used by investment managers and institutional investors for index funds and as benchmarks for both passive and active investment strategies.  The Russell 3000 Index also serves as the U.S. component to the Russell Global Index.

Commenting on GreenHunter Energy’s inclusion in the Russell 3000 Index, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Gary C. Evans stated, “The addition of GreenHunter Energy on the Russell 3000 Index at such an early stage in our Company’s development is a testament to the potential of this young and vibrant organization.  The investment community is taking note of the fact that GreenHunter Energy is the only publicly-traded portfolio company of renewable power and fuels assets in the United States. GreenHunter Energy’s management team has begun successfully executing on an aggressive business plan with the top priority being to maximize the returns on our capital employed. Additionally, our organization was built outside of the controversial debate surrounding the “food vs. fuel” concern. Our current feedstocks for our biodiesel refinery as well as our biomass project cannot be eaten by humans.”

GreenHunter Energy’s common stock began trading on the first trading day of this year, January 2nd, on the American Stock Exchange at a price of $12.00 per share.

GreenHunter Energy is focused on the renewable energy sectors of wind, hydro, geothermal, solar, biofuels, and biomass power plants. Our assets consist of leases of real property for future development of wind energy projects located in Montana, New Mexico, California, Texas, and China, the nation’s largest biodiesel refinery located in Houston, Texas, and a cow manure-fired power plant located in El Centro, California. Headquartered in Grapevine, Texas, GreenHunter Energy was formed to be the first publicly traded renewable energy company based in the U.S. that provides to investors a portfolio of diversified assets in the alternative energy sector.
